Gabor's celebrity soon outgrew her screen roles. She became a regular on television talk and game shows, where her Hungarian accent, arch delivery, and jokes about wealth and marriage made her a popular guest. Her private life generated as many headlines as her films: she married nine times, to men including Hilton, Sanders, and Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, her husband from 1986 until her death. In 1989 she was arrested for slapping a Beverly Hills police officer during a traffic stop; she was convicted and served a short jail sentence in 1990.
Her later years were marked by serious health problems, including injuries from a 2002 car accident and a 2010 hip fracture. She remained a tabloid presence through her marriage to von Anhalt and died in 2016. Her only child, Francesca, had died the previous year.
