What Does the Name Talen Mean?
Talen is an uncommon given name whose meaning is not firmly established. It is used chiefly in the United States, where it is spelled the same as a family name found in the Netherlands. It is sometimes treated as a variant spelling of the English name Talon, which comes from the Old French talon, "heel," a word also used for a bird's claw. Because Talen and Talon exist side by side as separate spellings, and because the Dutch surname offers a different possible source, no single derivation can be stated with confidence.
Talen Name History & Origins
Talen has little recorded history as a first name and is not traceable to a documented older form in another language. In the United States it remains uncommon and is borne by, among others, basketball player Talen Horton-Tucker. The same spelling is found as a surname in the Netherlands and among Dutch-descended families, but the specific origin of that surname is not established here.
As a given name, Talen may have grown out of that surname, out of the similar English name Talon, or as an independent spelling; the available record does not settle which of these is correct.
