What Does the Name Soulene Mean?
Soulene has no widely accepted etymology, and no meaning can be given for it with confidence. The nearest established name is the French feminine Solène, which comes from Latin solemnis (also written sollemnis), meaning "solemn" or "customary, ceremonial." The resemblance in spelling is the only reason to connect the two, and a shared origin has not been shown, so that meaning cannot be assigned to Soulene. A link to the Greek Selēnē, "moon," the source of Selene and Selena, is likewise only a spelling resemblance.
Soulene Name History & Origins
Soulene is a rare given name with no documented line of earlier forms behind it. If it is in fact a respelling of French Solène, its background would belong to the Latin word solemnis and to Saint Solange, whose Latin name Sancta Sollemnia stands behind both the French Solange and Solène; she was a ninth-century shepherdess venerated in the Berry region of France. Nothing in the record ties Soulene itself to that name or to that tradition, and without such evidence its development cannot be traced.
