What Does the Name Nusayba Mean?

Nusayba is an Arabic female name meaning "of noble lineage" or "of good descent." It comes from the Arabic root n-s-b (ن س ب), which has to do with lineage, kinship, and relationship. The name is a diminutive form, formed from the noun nisbah (نِسْبَة), "relationship" or "connection," on the pattern that gives nusaybah (نُسَيْبَة). The literal force of the diminutive is something like "little connection" or "small relationship," but as a personal name it is understood through the root noun nasab (lineage), giving the customary sense "of noble lineage." It is not derived from the similar-sounding Arabic root n-ṣ-b (ن ص ب), which gives naṣīb, "share" or "portion."
