Ron Goldman was the son of Fred Goldman and Sharon Rufo and the older brother of Kim Goldman. He grew up in the Chicago area and later moved to Southern California, where he worked in restaurants while pursuing modeling and acting. At the time of his death, he was a waiter at Mezzaluna in Brentwood and was friendly with Nicole Brown Simpson.
On the night of June 12, 1994, Goldman went to Nicole Brown Simpson's condominium on Bundy Drive to return a pair of eyeglasses that her mother had left at Mezzaluna. He was stabbed to death outside the gate of the property; Nicole was killed nearby. The two killings prompted an intense police investigation and extensive media coverage.
Authorities charged O.J. Simpson, Nicole's ex-husband and a former football star, with the murders. A Los Angeles jury acquitted him in 1995 after a televised criminal trial. In a separate civil case, a jury found Simpson liable for both deaths in 1997 and ordered him to pay damages to the Goldman and Brown families. Fred and Kim Goldman became prominent victims' rights advocates, and the family later acquired the rights to Simpson's book If I Did It as part of efforts to collect the judgment.
