What Are the Four Suits in a Deck of Cards?
A standard deck of playing cards is divided into four suits: Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, and Spades. Each suit contains thirteen cards - numbered Ace through 10, followed by three face cards: the Jack, Queen, and King. This structure has been used for centuries in games, gambling, and symbolic systems across the world.
But these suits are more than just a tool for games. Across cultures, they've been associated with different aspects of life:
- Hearts often represent emotions, relationships, and the realm of love.
- Clubs are tied to the mind, communication, and mental growth.
- Diamonds symbolize wealth, values, and the material world.
- Spades reflect work, transformation, and life challenges.
In traditional fortune-telling and metaphysical systems, these interpretations have helped people draw connections between the suits and human experience.
In the Destiny Cards system, these same four suits take on an even deeper meaning - acting as energetic archetypes that influence your personality and life path based on your birthdate.
Keep reading to discover how each suit shapes your destiny - and what it says about you.

Your Destiny Suit & Life Lessons
In the Destiny Cards system, you were born into one of the four suits - Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, or Spades - each carrying its own energetic imprint and unique life curriculum. Unlike in card games where suits are random, your suit in this system is based on your exact date of birth, and it offers deep insight into your emotional patterns, thought processes, values, and soul purpose.
Here's a glimpse into what each suit reveals:
Hearts - The Lovers and Feelers
If you're a Heart, your lessons revolve around love, connection, family, and emotional intelligence. Your destiny centers on learning how to love deeply without losing yourself - and how to navigate the joys and complexities of human relationships.
Clubs - The Thinkers and Communicators
Clubs are natural intellectuals, teachers, and seekers of truth. Your life is a quest for knowledge and clarity, and your lessons often involve using your voice, mastering communication, and balancing reason with intuition.
Diamonds - The Builders and Evaluators
Born under the Diamond suit, you're here to explore the material world - money, values, ambition, and self-worth. Your path challenges you to align external success with internal integrity and to redefine what truly matters.
Spades - The Workers and Transformers
Spades carry the deepest spiritual lessons. Your journey is about endurance, service, and transformation. Life may place heavier responsibilities on your path, but you're also given the strength and wisdom to rise through them.

Who Was Olney H. Richmond - and Why It Matters
The Destiny Cards system traces its modern roots back to Olney H. Richmond, a 19th-century mystic, astrologer, and author of The Mystic Test Book. Far ahead of his time, Richmond believed that the 52-card deck wasn't just for games - it was a sacred calendar and symbolic map of human life. He taught that each card corresponded to specific planetary influences and that our birth card could reveal our soul's purpose, relationships, and life cycles.
Richmond's work drew on astrology, numerology, and ancient Egyptian teachings, blending them into a system both precise and profoundly intuitive. His vision gave rise to what we now call the Science of the Cards, a hidden language encoded in time itself.
Today, the Destiny Cards remain a powerful spiritual tool - one that continues to awaken deeper understanding in those who seek to know not just who they are, but why they are.
